The postponement of Bute Ploughing Match from Saturday to Sunday due to an adverse weather forecast did not deter local ploughman Alex Robertson, ploughing only a stones throw from his home, as he was judged the best overall ploughman.
The weather did brighten on the Sunday morning, after very heavy overnight rain, for the 27 tractor men and two horse ploughmen who assembled at Nether Adroscadale Farm to take part in Bute Vintage Club’s 11th annual ploughing match.
The judges, David Veitch and James Gardener from Fife, praised the standard of workmanship and said how delighted they had been to judge in such a lovely island setting.
When judging was complete Club Chairman Ian Crawford invited his wife Yvonne to present the cups and prizes. On completion of the prize giving, Yvonne was presented with a bouquet of flowers by Chloe Robertson. Finally Ian Crawford, thanked all participants, sponsors, stewards, judges and Mr &Mrs D McAlister for providing the field.
