PLOUGHING MATCH SATURDAY 20 SEPTEMBER 2008
Bute Vintage Club’s Eighth Vintage Ploughing Match and Rally took place at Langalchorad Farm, [by kind permission of Mr & Mrs D Whitelaw], on Saturday 20th Sept., The weather was at last, after the monsoon season, favourable throughout the day. Twenty-nine ploughmen, including ten mainland competitors contested six ploughing classes.
Mr M Smith, Annabank and Mr A Ramsay, Glenluce, had the difficult task of judging the many excellent plots of ploughing. The best overall ploughman, for the second year running, and winner of the William Somerville Memorial Trophy, kindly donated by Mr J Somerville, was David Vetch, Kinross. The best Bute ploughman and winner of the Dumfries Trophy, kindly presented by the Dumfries ploughmen, was Ronald Robertson, Ballianlay Schoolhouse. The best Bute tractor on the field and winner of the Bute Tools Trophy, kindly donated by Mr W McFie, was William McMillan’s (Cranslagvourity) Grey Ferguson.
Mrs Nikki Whitelaw presented the prizes at the end of the event and was then presented with a beautiful basket of flowers by club president’s granddaughter, Isla Crawford. President Billy Crawford closed the event by thanking everyone who had contributed to the successful day.
