
The Club organised a Charity Vintage Vehicle Road Run on Saturday 7th July 2007 in aid of :- CALUM's CABIN and ROTHESAY PIPE BAND Thirty Five tractors, a 1922 Sunbeam, a 1950’s Riley, an army Land Rover and limber and a 40 year old David MacBrayne’s bus were flagged off by Johnny Beattie from Guilford Square on Bute Vintage Club’s Annual Vintage Vehicle road run to Rothesay Public Park via Port Bannatyne and Kingarth. The vehicles were serenaded by Bute Ceilidh Band, from at top a curtain sided lorry, along with a solo piper. The admiring crowds strolled round casting eyes over the vehicles, emitting it many oohs and aahs. The run was led off by Lawrence MacDuff’s classic David MacBrayne’s bus, confusingly it showed the destination of Ardrishaig but to local man Jimmy Morton was on board to act island guide so that to the bus and did not stray off route. The following tractors made a fine sight as they trundled along the narrow confines of Montague street and Gallowgate before joining the main road to the north Some three hours later the cavalcade arrived at Rothesay Public Park where more admirers drooled a over the lovingly kept vehicles and the participants enjoyed some well earned refreshments. Foot and Mouth disease prevented Cattle and Sheep attending Bute Agricultural Society's annual show on Wednesday 8th August 2007. The Club stepped in at the last minute to help fill the vacant space by organising a display of member's tractors.
